Bred by:   Mike van der Jagt  This year Mike bred 1st UNC AU Band Race, - 595 km, 62L & 428b.

Sex: This  young cock was a gangly youngster.  Now, since he has almost completed his molt his handling characteristics have improvement considerably.  He will mature to be a quite impressive handling cock with a very good breeding eye.

Comments: Mike van der Jagt shipped me a pair of grizzle youngsters ORI 224 & 225 on June 23rd to be tested.  They hatched on May 24, the same day as Queen Victoria's Birthday.  When I received them I had some doubts they would survive being so young.  The first time they were out, both youngsters stayed out all day and eventually one found its way in late the first day and the other one somewhere around mid-day of the second day.  Both birds missed several of the first training tosses because I thought they were too young to be trained.  When I noticed them flying strongly around the loft for an hour with the rest of the birds I quickly changed my mind.  In my opinion, if youngsters can fly around the loft easily for an hour they can probably fly many more hours on the road.  224 didn't disappoint me.

06 ORI 224 went on to fly exceptionally well.  He was in the first drop 6 straight races and in the first 5 positions five times and completed the remaining 3 races very admirably for his age and scored 7th Overall.

Pedigree: 06 ORI 224  Mike wrote:

The sire of 224 and 225 is 00 CU ORI 243.  He was 4 x 1st UNC and 8 times in the top 7.   His sire is 92-AU-H-1048.  I purchased a 9 bird kit of Bandits in 1992 from Chic Brooks (Hapyco Lofts) of Fresno California and raced them.  1048 was one of those 9.  He won a combine in Guelph and went on to become my foundation sire.  All 9 of the bandits in the kit were grand children of the White Bandit.

The dam of 224 and 225 is 2001 AU CBS 1774 a Maximizer hen that I purchased from Rick Mardis (Continental Breeding Station).  I also raced her.  She won a race as a yearling and went on to develop a solid race record flying several 500 mile races from Longlac and Moosonee.  2006 was the first year in stock for both 243 and 1774.
